Abstract

The move of the Allied G.S.G.S. Cartographic Collection from the British
School at Rome to the Aerofototeca Nazionale, with the aim of bringing together two inextricably linked archives, provides an opportunity to shed light on their history, highlighting the pivotal role of J.B. Ward-Perkins’s work in this endeavour. This Collection remains to this day a valuable research tool, given that the production and updating of maps during World War II depended on the informational potential of aerial photographs, which are still useful today.
