Abstract

In the last twenty years, the evolution of geospatial information has radically changed due to the emergence of global private platforms capable of satisfying the vast majority of geographic information needs. The traditional model of Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDI), focused on certified public data, is no longer sufficient to respond to the current demand for high-value services. This paper analyses the transition from public SDIs to a new paradigm based on value-added geoinformation services, enabled by AI,real-time data and integrated technological ecosystems. It highlights the need for regulatory modernization and for a new balance between public authorities and private sector platforms to guarantee strategic sovereignty over essential data while enabling the development of effective service ecosystems.
