Abstract

Flagship Project 6 of the Rome Technopole ecosystem, led by Thales Alenia
Space with partners Sapienza, Tor Vergata, Roma Tre, Cassino, Tuscia, LUISS, UCBM, CNR, INFN, ENEA (academic) and Airbus Italia, Almaviva, BV-Tech (industrial), develops AI, virtual/augmented reality, digital twin and robotics for advanced engineering and aerospace manufacturing. Ten Working Groups address: AI-guided satellite assembly with AR headsets (WG1), real-time anomaly detection in manufacturing (WG2), factory digital twin for supply chain resilience (WG3), robotic autonomous assembly (WG4), metamaterials and nanoporous materials for vibration isolation at launch (WG5, La Carbonara and Giacomello groups, Sapienza), AI for satellite data analysis and GEOorbit surveillance (WG6), FPGA-based neural network accelerators for spaceembedded AI (WG9, AeneasHDC IEEE WCCI 2024), and IoT-based water/air pollutant detection (WG10, ICPR 2024). Scientific output includes 20+ publications in 2024. The article contextualises FP6 within the New Space competitive landscape, IRIDE and IRIS² programmes, and addresses open questions on IP governance and post-PNRR sustainability.
